SPECIAL SERVICES

FUMIGATION

Fumigation is a specialized pest control service in which insects are eliminated using gases or vapours. It is carried out under strictly controlled conditions and with special safety measures.

The procedure consists of several basic steps:

  • 1. Preparatory work: inspection of the facility, notification of the competent authorities, and posting notices and warnings at the site; sealing of the space and verification of its airtightness
  • 2. Release of the fumigant into the space
  • 3. Exposure period
  • 4. Degassing and handover of goods and/or the facility

Providers of pest control services must hold appropriate authorization from the competent authority. They must also employ highly trained personnel, use appropriate protective equipment, and meet all other requirements prescribed by laws and regulations.

Fumigation is the most effective method for controlling insects such as bedbugs in public transport (e.g. ships) and tourist facilities, museum pests in museums and private collections, woodworm (e.g. Anobium punctatum) in wooden materials and furniture, storage pests (e.g. tobacco beetle, flour beetle, flour moth, wheat weevil), as well as other pests that infest food and non-food products during transport or storage.

HO-RE-CA SERVICES

For hotels, restaurants and catering facilities we offer a complete service package:

  • pest control and sanitation
  • ornamental plants and greenery protection and vegetation (weed) control
  • collection of used cooking oil and other types of waste
  • unblocking of sewerage systems and/or emptying of septic tanks

The advantage of such an offer for clients lies in easier work organization, as the same company performs multiple tasks. This also results in better pricing and a higher level of service quality.

Odour Control Systems

We also provide odour control services for waste containers, sewerage systems, public areas, and other similar locations, using products based on microorganisms and enzymes. These are powder-based agents that act on organic matter in waste by stopping the fermentation process, thus preventing the formation of unpleasant odours.

In this way, container conditions are improved naturally and without the use of chemicals, unpleasant smells are eliminated, working conditions for waste collection workers are improved, and the formation of leachate is reduced or completely prevented. Through systematic application of this product, hardened waste residues in containers are also broken down, which prevents scraping and damage to containers and makes their cleaning easier.

Oil Spill Reponse Systems

We provide the supply and installation of oil spill and pollution response systems, with the aim of preventing the spread of floating pollutants during various types of operations in water areas.

The system includes the rental, installation and removal of protective floating booms as well as anchoring systems for enclosing different areas (during works and similar activities). Upon the client’s request, the service may also include standby personnel (eco vessels) and possible operational support, or, in the case of longer rental periods, periodic inspections of the system (e.g. once a month).

The boom must be anchored to prevent stretching or piling up caused by sea conditions and wind, with anchors absorbing part of the marine forces. At the same time, anchoring ensures that the boom maintains the required shape. The anchoring system consists of the following elements:

  • 1. Anchor block
  • 2. Anchor chain
  • 3. Anchor rope
  • 4. Anchor buoy

If the boom is connected to the shore, a compensating guide must be installed at the connection point. In cases where the guide cannot be installed due to coastal configuration, the boom is moored directly to the shore, and a suitable mooring point must be provided.

EKO-set

EKO-set (pollution remediation kit) is an effective solution for remediation of minor pollution on land and sea. Specifically, the content of EKO-set is intended for:

  • remediation of minor hydrocarbon pollution (oil and lubricants) on land and water
  • degreasing / cleaning of hard surfaces and water surfaces

There are two types of EKO-set:

  • type I (remediation of pollution on land)
  • type M (remediation of pollution on sea)

The advantage of this kit is that remediation can begin immediately after the pollution occurs, which reduces the risk of its spread and shortens the remediation time.

EKO-set consists of a plastic container, absorbent powder, absorbent pads/rolls, a broom/brush, a dustpan, a protective mask, a coverall, protective gloves, and other equipment (materials) required for pollution remediation. Please bear in mind that protective gloves and other personal protective equipment must always be worn when working with this kit. Instructions for use are provided with each supplied kit.

The contents and total price of EKO-set are defined based on the specific needs of each customer.

Intersuzam

We have proudly developed a unique system of emergency pollution response, primarily intended for port authorities (local, regional, or national), as well as for all commercial entities operating in coastal areas (marinas, industrial facilities, etc.).

With InterSUZAM, remediation costs can be reduced by up to 80%, depending on the type of pollution (type and density of material, i.e. hydrocarbons), maritime conditions (wind conditions, sea currents and their intensity and direction), vessel conditions (fire, sinking) etc.

By signing a contract for the implementation of this system, our clients benefit from numerous advantages and receive the best service for a minimal annual investment.

Purchase/Collection of Used Cooking Oil

Used cooking oil is any oil generated in catering and tourism activities, as well as in industry, crafts, healthcare, public administration, and other similar activities in which more than 20 meals are prepared per day.

Holders of used cooking oil are required to ensure its separate collection from other waste, using designated containers.

Within the Waste Management Department, we collect used cooking oils (UCO) from both individual and legal entities, and transport them to an authorized treatment facility. When concluding a contract for the collection and transport of UCO, the client is provided with a sufficient number of containers/bins for the collection of UCO at no additional cost for the entire duration of the contract (as confirmed by the client). When we collect UCO, the holder must ensure that the containers are placed in an accessible location to facilitate handling, in coordination with our staff. It is also very important that only used cooking oil, is disposed of in the provided containers, and no other types of waste are added, such as food residues, cutlery, water, various chemicals, lubricating oils, paints, detergents, sludge, etc.

Before handing over the used cooking oil, the holder is required to complete the first part of the Waste Shipment Form (data about the waste producer), which will be certified by our staff upon collection of the waste.

Collection of Asbestos Waste

As an authorized waste collector and transporter, we handle construction waste containing asbestos, from both private individuals and businesses.

We collect the following types of asbestos:

  • flat and corrugated large format sheets
  • small-format facade and roofing sheets
  • asbestos pipes removed from walls of buildings that are demolished or reconstructed
  • firmly bound insulating materials.

When collected, the waste must be put in appropriate packaging (big-bag sacks, stretch film, Euro pallets) in order to prevent the release of asbestos fibers into the environment. The waste is then transported to a municipal landfill equipped with a designated cell for the disposal of construction waste containing asbestos. A Waste Consignment Note is completed upon collection of the waste.

Collection of Waste Lubricating Oils

Under the agreement on the temporary performance of waste lubricating oil collection services signed with the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, our company collects waste lubricating oils of Category 1 and 2 free of charge (these are mostly used engine oils from auto repair workshops).

Before handing over waste lubricating oils, the holder is required to complete the first part of the Waste Consignment Note (waste producer information) and the Waste Properties Declaration.

NOTE: If the holder does not provide the Waste Properties Declaration, or if the quantity of waste lubricating oils being delivered exceeds one ton, the holder is required to submit, together with the Consignment Note, a Waste Properties Testing Report (physical-chemical analysis of the waste) not older than 12 months from the date the testing was carried out.

The completed Consignment Note and Declaration (or a copy of the analysis) have to be handed over to our staff together with the waste. Waste lubricating oils are transported to facilities authorized for the recovery and/or disposal of waste lubricating oils.

Collection and disposal of ship-generated (MARPOL) waste

Based on concession agreements, we carry out the collection of all types and categories of MARPOL waste, in accordance with the Ordinance on the conditions and manner of maintaining order in ports and other parts of internal sea waters and the territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia (Official Gazette 72/2021), Directive (EU) 2019/883 of the European Parliament, the MARPOL 73/78 Convention, and EU waste legislation.

As stipulated by the Ordinance, the delivery of MARPOL waste is mandatory prior to a vessel’s departure from port. Collection is performed by our team of 30 trained employees, using ADR vacuum tankers with a capacity of 6–30 m³, trucks equipped with cranes and grab systems, as well as vessels in terminals where shore-based collection is not possible. MARPOL waste is transported to the port reception facility within the Port of Rijeka and, after sorting, treatment, or conditioning, is further transported for final disposal.

We are the only concessionaire in the northern Adriatic authorized to collect all categories of MARPOL waste. We are also the only company providing this service to ship operators using specialized vessels equipped with tanks for the collection of liquid MARPOL waste, significantly facilitating and simplifying logistics, reducing costs, and shortening the time required for waste delivery operations.

Ship supply assistance

Our company also provides assistance in the supply of goods and materials to vessels, most commonly using our specialized multifunctional vessel Tonka. Its fully flat deck makes it highly suitable for various types of deliveries to ships anchored or stationed at terminals where shore-based delivery is not possible.

The deck can accommodate up to 25 pallets (equivalent to one truckload), and the vessel is also equipped with a telescopic crane enabling fast and efficient loading and unloading operations. The crane can handle loads of up to 4,000 kg at a 3 m reach, or 600 kg at a 12 m reach.

Loading operations take place at the Mlaka Petroleum Port, at the Goranin berth in Bakar (if available), or at other locations, depending on client requirements.

In order to keep pace with the rapidly growing maritime industry, we invest significant resources in logistics, technology, and state-of-the-art equipment, and we are fully prepared to satisfy all client requirements related to MARPOL waste collection in accordance with IMO, EU, and Croatian legislation.
